Johnson & Johnson Finally Admits: Our Baby Products Contain Cancer-Causing Ingredients

Parents would do anything in order to protect their children, but sometime they make a mistake by trusting the product labels and brand names.
Recently, Johnson & Johnson faced a lwasuit and public outrage over their baby products.
Questionable Ingredients
Many products produced by this brand company such as shampoos, soaps, lotions, etc. contain questionable ingredients, and what’s worse, they label their products as “baby-safe”.
A nonprofit environmental research organization called the Environmental Working Group lists concerns over Johnson & Johnsons’s multiple additive exposure sources; skin, eye, and lung irritants; cytotoxic ingredients; endocrine disruptors; neurotoxins; and bioaccumulative carcinogens.
They are mostly concern about 2 ingredients contained in their products called Quaternium-15 and 1,4 dioxane.
Quaternium-15 releases formaldehyde which is carcinogen that causes watery eyes, burning sensation in the eyes, nose and throat, skin irritation, nausea, coughing and wheezing. Daily exposure is lined with leukemia and brain cancer.
There are several other chemicals used by this company which also release formaldehyde such as Diazolidinyl urea, DMDM hydantoin, and imidazolidinyl urea.
The Environmental Protection Agency claims that inhaling 1,4 dioxane causes vertigo, drowsiness, headache, anorexia and irritation of the eyes, nose, throat, and lungs. On the other hand, topical application can irritate the skin. Moreover, it is considered as possible carcinogen.
In order to protect yourself and your family, you need to pay attention what you purchase and try to avoid ingredients like PEG-100 stearate, sodium laureth sulphate, sodium myreth sulphate, polyethylene and ceteareth-20, which produce 1,4 dioxane as a byproduct.
Public Backlash
Once the public became aware of the harmful ingredients contained in Johnson & Johnson products, they demanded more transparency from the company and a change in formula.
Moreover, The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics sent the company a letter signed by 25 environmental and medical groups, demanding they “commit to removing the chemicals from all of its products by November 15, 2016.” They also adviced consumer to boycott Johnson & Johnson until they complied.
The company responded:
“We have been phasing out the use of preservatives that release tiny amounts of formaldehyde to guard against bacterial contamination. These preservative technologies, which are used widely in our industry are all safe and approved in the countries where they are sold…Over the past couple of years, we already have reduced the number of formulations globally with these ‘formaldehyde releaser’ preservatives by 33% and in the U.S. by over 60%.
We are completing this reformulation as quickly as we can safely and responsibly do so. As part of the manufacturing process, we have extensive monitoring to ensure that the amount of a trace byproduct known as “1,4 dioxane” in any of our products is well below the level that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and regulatory agencies around the world consider safe.
…We have introduced new product formulations for consumers who prefer natural products, such as JOHNSON’S® NATURAL®, a line that is 98% natural, and contains no formaldehyde releasing preservatives or traces of 1,4 dioxane.”
Their new line for babies is a bit late, and the price is twice as much as other products. In the past, the company faced lawsuits over their baby powder products which were found to cause ovarian cancer.
Can you realy trust this company who has been exposing babies and children to deadly ingredients for decades now?
Always Read your Labels
it should be mentioned that Johnson & Johnson isn’t the only company to produce and sell dangerous baby products.
According to the Environmental Working Group, there are many more products that harm our children.
For instance, 82% of children are exposed to ingredients with the potential to harm the brain and nervous system, 69% of children are exposed to ingredients that may disrupt the hormone system, and the worst part is that 3.6% of children are exposed to ingredients which can cause cancer.
There are also numerous products which contain chemicals which cause skin irritations such as lotions, diapers, sunscreen, cream, baby shampoos and many other body care products.
Due to the fact that child’s skin is 30 percent thinner than an adult’s, children can absorb up to 10 times more chemicals from bath products than their parents.
However, many countries have banned these harmful chemucals from the imported products and Johnson & Johnson respects these guidelines.
Luckily, now we can trust some companies who have already manufacturing facilities and recipes that respect the sensitivities and needs of children.
There are many countries who have access to formaldehyde-free products such as Sweden, the U.K., Finland, Norway, South Africa, Japan, Denmark and the Netherlands, which is not the case with America.
What Parents Can do
in order to protect your family, make sure to read the labels on the producst you purchase, no matter if they are for personal care, toys or food.
If you have a baby, always try to use 100% natural organic products for your baby’s skin. Better yet, you can try to make yourown homemade products like shampoo or toothpaste. In order to prevent chafting, hydrate your baby’s skin and cure diaper rash, apply coconut oil instead of using baby oil or powder.
